One of the biggest problems with Internet Marketing and SEO is that it actually takes work to make things happen – to promote your site, to get traffic, to develop content, to build links. Unfortunately we are very prone to falling prey to that one myth that is so comfortable to believe in – the money for nothing syndrome.
We are told that it is easy to make money on the internet. We all like to believe this myth since it feeds the dream – the dream of making lots of money with very little effort. Making money on the Internet is like having your own personal money printing machine. ‘they’ would have you believe. In the mean time, for those of us who have been doing it for a while, we know that it is very difficult. In theory it is easy to understand – identify a niche market, get a product, build a site, promote the site, get traffic and the money will roll in.
Any of the areas of Internet Marketing can present some pretty big problems. You can do research in a niche and find one that looks promising. It has a lot of demand and you think that the competition is low. You also make sure that there is some Pay per click activity since it indicates that there is commercial activity around this particular niche.
Once you have identified a nice nich market you need to find a product to sell to this hungry crowd. But the problem is, you cannot find any! Or at least, you cannot find any that is worth selling or promoting as an affiliate. All the products out there look suspect – if you have been in the industry for a while you can identify a crappy product a mile away. Of course your option is to create an equally crappy product. Maybe you do that, but some of us balk at generating a quick rip-off of Wikipedia and some articles found in popular article directories.
Or there are a couple of big brand names that pop up all the time for this particular niche or need. And they do not offer a commission structure or an affiliate program. So basically there is no chance to make any money at all with THEIR products – they don’t need you in any case since they dominate the market already.
None of your Jedi SEO skills is going to help you any if you cannot identify the right niche and get the right product to sell to the right person. How is that for another piece of true, but ultimately useless information on the Internet!
